Pickleball’s most ubiquitous rating system, DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating), recently underwent its most significant transformation since its inception in 2021. On April 21, 2026, DUPR rolled out three major new features: Subscores, Career High, and DUPR Impact, alongside a redesigned profile experience in the mobile app and AI integration with PB Vision.
DUPR now calculates ratings based on point-by-point performance rather than just match outcomes. It primarily affects features to better understand your game, provides more tools for organizers to run better events, and more context for every player in the system.

Feature #1: Subscores
Subscores are format-specific and age-specific ratings that sit alongside your main DUPR number. Instead of one number covering every format you play, you now get dedicated ratings for:
- Mixed Doubles Rating
- Age-Based Doubles Rating (50+)
- Age-Based Doubles Rating (65+)

Mixed Doubles Rating
Mixed doubles has its own unique strategies, such as court positioning, shot selection, pace, and point construction, which vary based on team dynamics and player roles. A dedicated Mixed Doubles Rating captures that nuance, calculated exclusively from mixed doubles matches.
This makes it easier for players and organizers to track progress and better understand performance in one of the most common pickleball formats.
REQUIREMENT Minimum of 5 mixed doubles matches to receive a Mixed Doubles Rating. |
Age-Based Ratings (50+ and 65+)
Age-based ratings have been among the most-requested features from the senior pickleball community. They're designed to capture performance in events with 50+ and 65+ age divisions. This means your rating reflects how you compete within your peer group, not against players decades younger.
- Players aged 50–64 receive access to the 50+ rating.
- Players aged 65+ receive both the 50+ and 65+ ratings, giving flexibility to enter either age-gated division.
REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 50 years old. Must have an official DUPR rating (DUPR Coach and AI ratings are not eligible). |
Feature #2: Career High

Career High shows the highest DUPR rating you've ever achieved, recorded after your first 8 matches in the system. It's a simple idea with meaningful impact: even when your rating dips after a tough stretch, your peak level is permanently visible on your profile.
Ratings in any dynamic system naturally fluctuate. A bad tournament weekend or a rough month doesn't erase what you've demonstrated at your best. Career High preserves that evidence and gives opponents, organizers, and clubs a fuller picture of who you are as a player.
What it solves: It reduces the pressure that can come with rating fluctuations. Players who hover near a rating threshold no longer feel penalized for natural variance — their ceiling is always on record.
REQUIREMENT A minimum of 8 recorded matches to establish your Career High. |
Feature #3: DUPR Impact
DUPR Impact is a new layer within the existing Forecast tab in the DUPR mobile app. Forecast already lets you simulate matchups and estimate rating changes. DUPR Impact makes that simulation far more precise.
With DUPR Impact, you can input any matchup and any scoreline, then immediately see:
- The predicted rating change for both sides
- Win probability for that matchup
- How adjusting the scoreline (e.g., 11-8 vs. 11-4) shifts the expected rating movement
This is the most transparent look into the DUPR algorithm that players have ever had. It clarifies why a close loss hurts less than a blowout, and why winning convincingly pays off more than squeaking by.
NOTE DUPR Impact requires the latest version of the DUPR mobile app. Update before looking for it in the Forecast tab. |
So, What Does this Mean for Players & Clubs?
This is the most meaningful update to DUPR in years. Your main DUPR rating doesn't change but what surrounds it now is substantially richer.
Career High protects your reputation through inevitable rating swings. Subscores give players in specialized communities a rating that actually represents them. DUPR Impact democratizes the algorithm, letting anyone understand how their results translate into rating movement.
For Players
- No more rating anxiety: your Career High proves your peak level, even if your current rating dips.
- More data: Mixed Doubles and Age-Based ratings give a fuller picture of where you actually stand.
- More transparency: DUPR Impact shows you exactly how any result will move your number.
For Clubs & Organizers
The legitimate community concern of whether clubs and organizers will actually integrate these tools is fair. From a Redditor on r/Pickleball:
"Cool features on paper. My question is whether local clubs and tournament organizers actually use these subscores. If events still just run on your main DUPR, how much does any of it matter?"
DUPR has confirmed it is actively working with event management API partners to roll out subscore-based seeding and event gating. Adoption will take time, but the data is now there.
- Use Mixed Doubles Rating to seed mixed draws more accurately.
- Gate 50+ and 65+ leagues by Age-Based Rating rather than overall DUPR.
- Use Career High to add context around players near rating boundaries.
- DUPR is actively working with API partners to integrate subscores into event management platforms.
